Plant ecophysiology group

The group investigates the leaf traits of different plant functional types of Northern Eurasia, using approach developed by academician A.T. Mokronosov and the professor V.I. P’yankov.

The group provides expeditionary field researches in different climatic zones of Northern Eurasia more than 15 years.

Research Area

  1. Climatic distribution of plant structural and functional traits
  2. Structure and function of the photosynthetic apparatus in plants of different biomes 
  3. Diversity of photosynthetic apparatus structure, gas exchange, leaf chemical composition and construction cost of aquatic and wetland plants 
  4. Plant functional types and ecological strategies of different climatic zones.

Methods

Study of mesostructure of the photosynthetic apparatus with use of images analysis system SIAMS

During cooperation with company "SIAMS" (Ekaterinburg) specialized software SIAMS Mesoplant for the complex analysis of cells, tissues and leaves structure of plants is created. This software has allowed to raise repeatedly speed of the analysis, accuracy and efficiency of measurements (Petrov, Kadushnikov, Ivanov, 2002, 2005). Results of analyzer application to leaf mesostructure are published in several works (Ivanov, P’yankov, 2002; Voronin et al., 2003; Ivanov et al., 2004, 2007; Ivanova et al., 2006).

  4. INCO-Copernicus-2 «Assessment and Monitoring of Desertification Processes in Mongolia using Remote Sensing Methods and Geographic Information System». The project has been executed jointly with partners from Moscow State University (Russia), Ben Gurion University (Israel), University of applied sciences (Germany) and Institute of Botany (Mongolia).(2001-2003)
  5. BMBF: «Phytosanierung von Schwermetallen in B?den mit Hilfe gentechnisch ver?nderter Pappeln: Stabilit?t des Transgens und Einfluss auf die Rhizoflora" The project has been executed jointly with partners from Frieburg University (Germany) and Centre of Ecological Teaching and Information (Russia). (2002-2004)
